You can rent a kayak or kayak tour at La Jolla Shores, or rent them from REI. I myself have bought my own.
My Kayak, I carry snorkeling gear, flotation device and waterproof cases for gear such as my camera. In this case a point and shoot.
Dont forget a towel and sunscreen.

Though the adults are wary,the young seals are all for a good scratching on my paddle.
After a few good scratches its off to play in the kelp forest.
