In 1875 The Chavez Gang , Chavez had actually been hung four days before, comes across The Mexican Border to rob The Original Store, by bandits and on December 4, 1875 , there was a Gunfight between about Six bandits and two brothers at the store. During the fight three bandits were shot, as well as one of The two Brothers who own the store, Lumen Gaskill and a man nicknamed Frenchy who was passing by and joined in. Lumen despite being shot through the lung survived as well as Frenchy, though Frenchy did die two weeks after. Of The Bandits one Vasquez was shot dead and two Lopez and Alvitro were wounded. Alvitro and and Alvijo were later apprehended and Hung. Though I have have seen some accounts that Alvitro may have been found dead by a posse.

The Cave
|
The Original Wooden Store, was built over Campo Creek. The Creek was used to keep perishables cool. After the Gunfight and Rebuilding of The Stone Store, a cave was dug into the hillside to serve the same function. When one enters the cave there is a noticeable coolness emanating from the walls.

This Video is showing me walking down The Old Wagon Road to a Ghost Sign advertising Chicken Sunday. In The Old Historical Photos there are many places advertising chicken dinners. The sign was in a cliff that has recently collapsed and can be seen faintly on the boulder. When the sun is directly upon it, the sign gets washed out as the sun passes over it becomes readable.
