The Pump House
A hike to an old pump house that lies down in Storm Canyon. We used the Pacific Crest Trail to access the Old Oasis Road (no longer maintained), to walk down to the structure, the final leg involves a goat trail.
I actually stumbled upon this by happenstance, I was hiking a bit farther north on The PCT when I noticed an old road in the canyon behind me. The road disappeared within the canyon and no road emerged. Later when I returned home I used google maps, thinking possible mine, and there it was.
We walked down The Pacific Crest Trail to where what remains of The Oasis Road meet up. As I understand it The Oasis Road is no longer maintained, and is basically just a non maintained trail now, a bit rough.
Along the way we enjoyed the views of Storm Canyon and The Anza Borrego, far below, as we travel along the PCT. Soon the pump house slowly came into view down in the canyon below. The pump house use to supply water, from a spring up the hill, to local campgrounds and buildings in the area |

This Video was taken from my phone, it shows the pump house left of center. Notice the green vegetation in the vicinity, Oasis Spring was still running at the time of our visit. It took about an hour to hike down, but we did take our time. The Oasis Spring Creek has a cement diversion channel to possibly cut down on erosion, The area is very lush with vegetation, grapevines and even Cat Tails around the spring.
The attached video pans across Storm Canyon and The Anza Borrego. |
