Baja Chorus Frog
|
The Baja California chorus frog (Pseudacris hypochondriaca)is a small frog that can gather during the mating season in large quantity, these are from Oak Canyon. Breeding can occur from November to July depending on the location. Usually I see them in Mission Trails in Winter till early Spring. They dwell all over San Diego county and require water to breed.
I was actually taking photos at dusk and went into the early evening.at the start their was only a few doing their call, but as the night grew darker more gradually join in. I did not realized till after i left that my ears were actually ringing. |
Here's a little horror of the pools where the Frogs breed, Nematomorpha or Gordian worms and Horsehair worms.Average 20 inches to almost double this length. The Larvae enter insect and crustacean hosts, they then live within the host until matured. They actual cause the brain of the host to seek out water and drown themself when the parasite becomes mature, bringing the worm back to water to begin the cycle again.
