The USS Bennington PG-4 suffered a boiler explosion July 21 1905, killing 66 men of her crew. The Bennington was a Yorktown Class gunboat 244 feet long with twin screws. The ship had both twin steam engines and three schooner rigged masts.After the explosion the ship was scrapped since the damage was to extensive

The battle was between The Americans and the Californios, Mexico forces.The bodies were Temporarily buried at Mule Hill and San Pasqual Creek. in 1882 they were buried at Fort Rosecrans and the syne was brought from The San Pasqual Battlefieldin 1922
