Yankee Jim Robinson
Yankee Jim is one of the ghost known to hang around the Whaley House in Old Town in San Diego. Yankee Jim was hung from a tree on The Whaley House Property for stealing a rowboat. Evidence was sketchy at best on this charge, he was seen rowing the boat near the Schooner Platus.
The hanging was a gruesome affair, for Yankee Jim was a tall man for the time, and the makeshift gallows was for a shorter man. Yankee Jim there fore slowly strangled to death. To add insult to injury, the coffins of the day were for shorter men as well, they decided to break his legs instead of buying a larger coffin.
The Stories say is footsteps can be heard at times as he walks the upper floors of The Whaley House.
